Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations at Real Madrid, and James Fotheringham, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of the Kinetic Foundation, announced the renewal of the partnership between the two organisations, which is now in its sixth season in the UK.
This partnership has allowed the Foundation to run the socio-sports school in the United Kingdom, at the Harris City Academy public school and at the Crystal Palace national sports centre in Croydon. The project is intended for children between 12 and 18 years of age in a situation of social underprivilege in the south London borough of Croydon, an area with high rates of delinquency and poor school performance.

During the event, Butragueño said: “There is nothing more important than providing people with the tools and resources to do their best and I think this project in Croydon is a perfect example, which makes me very proud and happy.” Meanwhile, Fotheringham said: “For us, this alliance is an enormous leap forward in ensuring that children from ethnic minorities can complete their studies and acquire social and emotional skills from the age of 18.”

Beneficiaries
Nearly 500 young people have already benefited from this project since its initiation. The Croydon socio-sport school currently serves 90 beneficiaries, promoting the social inclusion and integral development of young people in vulnerable socio-economic situations. Many come from disadvantaged areas of London such as New Addington and Fieldway, both of which are areas with high rates of youth unemployment. The socio-sports school provides opportunities for these youngsters, 88% of whom come from under-represented backgrounds and 94% of whom progress to university, employment or training, while providing a support network for their families. Since last season it has been backed by UPS, as well as nutrition education workshops with Abbot.
