Foundation schools in Ukraine continue with their operations one year after the invasion
NEWS.
A year after the invasion of Ukraine, the seven Real Madrid Foundation social sports schools in the cities of Ternopil, Irpin, Jmelnytskyi and Kiev continue to operate, adapting to the current challenges. The schools' work serving the children and their families has not stopped during this time. Social sports projects have been adapted to these exceptional circumstances to increase the coverage of care and extend the activities for the children, including the provision of basic necessities to the displaced families as well as psychosocial care.

In addition, thanks to the collaboration with Cesal, the humanitarian aid has been provided to the rest of the population of the towns where the social sports schools are situated.

Sport in values to combat child stress
Since the beginning of the invasion, the number of children has increased, including internally displaced children and others who were in need of sport and its values to combat the stress caused by the situation.

The visit to Madrid in October by several of the children, where they were welcomed by the president of Real Madrid and its Foundation, Florentino Pérez, and the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, underlined the psychological effects of the war on the children, as one of the pupils pointed out: 'For a few days we can forget about the tension. We can sleep peacefully, without fear of hearing air raid sirens'.

The 'All for Ukraine' campaign, launched by the Real Madrid Foundation on 4 March 2022, supported by Real Madrid and donations of one million euros and 13,000 items of clothes and sporting equipment, has continued with different areas of support in Spain and beyond.

According to the local partner, Epicenter for Children, 'before the war, the objective was to provide an opportunity and hope to children at risk of exclusion, some of them orphans. After the war, our main objective is to keep them alive and make them smile'.
