Foundation holds 8th Adapted Basketball Campus
Over 40 youngsters will get the chance to enjoy their favourite sport at the event in Alcorcón.
Last Sunday saw the participants in the Real Madrid Foundation's 8th Adapated Basketball Campus descend on Alcorcón's Complejo Deportivo y Residencia Amanecer , which is hosting the event for a second successive year. For another summer, 44 boys and girls with cognitive disabilities will spend the whole week playing their favourite sport, while they are learning about values that enhance their personal development and favour their independence in their day-to-day lives.
This campus targets people with cognitive dysfunctions and helps them to overcome the limitations preventing their complete social inclusion. The goal is to facilitate the tactical-technical learning of basketball, valuing the diversity and abilities of each player. The days consist of multi-sport activities, which include training in fundamental values for social integration, like improving autonomy, learning to work as a team, the importance of teamwork, respect and equality. These are some of the concepts shared by all the summer camps, and particularly in the adapted camp.
Educational sport that reaches everyone
Through this initiative, as is the case during the school year in the adapted and inclusive socio-sports schools, educational sport run by specialist professionals is accessible to everyone, regardless of their situation. The campus participants also take part in swimming, arts and crafts workshops and leisure and educational activities.
