Felipe Reyes attends the Foundation's urban basketball campus
It's the second edition of the campus run in collaboration with Randori at the Mater Immaculata School in Madrid.
Real Madrid and Foundation ambassador Felipe Reyes has visited the urban basketball campus, being organised by the Real Madrid Foundation in conjunction with Randori for a second successive season. Each season, over 70 children aged from 5 to 17 are given education in values while enjoying their favourite sport in the facilities of the Mater Immaculata School in Madrid.
The Real Madrid Foundation's summer campus program will cater for around 10,000 students from June to September, among them about 500 in social sports basketball, adapted basketball, inclusive basketball and urban basketball formats. Every year, more boys and girls get the chance to enjoy sport and values through the Real Madrid Foundation's methodology designed to maximise leisure time. The campus activities complement the educational sports action lines which sees the Foundation help children around the world.
The participants in the campus enjoyed a very special day today. Aside from practicing their basketball skills, they were treated to some special advice from a Real Madrid basketball legend. The youngsters delivered a warm welcome for Felipe Reyes and formed a guard of honour waiting for their chance to high-five the star. They then listened to a talk in which he encouraged them to keep playing basketball and learning values like team spirit, motivation, equality and respect which will serve them both on and off the court, before he answered their questions.
Training alongside Felipe Reyes
To finish off, the moment they had all been waiting for, a training session with the kids playing alongside Felipe Reyes and practicing all they're learned in recent weeks, as well as posing for photographs. It was a special moment that will live long in the memory of everyone who attended the campus.
The urban basketball social sports campus is currently in its second edition, run and managed by the Real Madrid Foundation's Basketball Department, in collaboration with Randori, the Foundation's partner in adapted and senior basketball schools. This initiative includes three sessions in a week of activities and is aimed at young people looking to start out in basketball or improve their tactical or technical skills.
