Butragueño attends the Foundation's school charity dinner in Bulgaria
Proceeds from the event will contribute to the sustainability of Vidin's socio-sports school developed in conjunction with the Friends of Sport Foundation.
Emilio Butragueño, Director of Real Madrid's Institutional Relations, attended the charity dinner and auction to raise funds for the socio-sports school in Vidin, Bulgaria, organised by the Friends of Sports Foundation, the Foundation's social partner. The event, held in the city of Sofia, was attended by Nikolina Angelkova, former Bulgarian Minister of Tourism and Honorary President of the Friends of Sport Foundation; the Ministers of Youth and Sport, Dimitar Iliev; and Culture, Krastyu Krastev; the Spanish Ambassador to Bulgaria, Alejandro Polanco; and the President of the Bulgarian Football Association, Mikhail Kasabov; among other authorities. In addition, more than 200 solidarity participants and a group of beneficiaries of the school, who performed during the event, also attended.
Nikolina Nikolova said: 'Your commitment to the Real Madrid Foundation's socio-sports school cause in Vidin is an example of the power of community and the profound effect that collective action can have on children who undeservedly face a more challenging start in life. Butragueño said: 'At Real Madrid, through our Foundation, we turn the club's solidarity into a social tool and a vehicle for education, development cooperation and social inclusion.'
The socio-sports school in Vidin was created in June 2014 with the collaboration of the Amigos del Deporte Foundation. It contributes to the integral development of the beneficiaries, to reduce the risk of social exclusion and to facilitate their integration into Bulgarian society. Each season, it assists more than 80 boys and girls between 5 and 17 years of age who come from vulnerable families. A large percentage of the beneficiaries are orphans, children from single-parent families or minority groups. In addition to the two weekly sessions of sports activities, they receive seminars on environmental care and healthy living habits, among others.
One of the most special experiences for this school was their participation in the 2019, 2021 and 2022 editions of the Alma Cup, and a visit in 2018 to Madrid, where they were able to share a training session with a group of students from a socio-sports school and take in a match at the Santiago Bernabéu.
