Big turnout for the 6th Real Madrid Foundation Solidarity Race
Almost 4,000 runners took part in the race supported by Unicaja Banco and Abbott.
The Real Madrid Foundation have held the sixth Solidarity Race by Unicaja Banco, sponsored by Abbott. Around 4,000 participants joined the race which will support the Foundation's social sports projects. Ana Echenique, director of the Executive Cabinet for Unicaja Banco, sounded the starting pistol for the race. The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Sports for the Community of Madrid Alberto Tomé; head of the Delegation of Sport for the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda; Real Madrid ambassador, Álvaro Arbeloa; and the Divisional Vice President Global Brand Strategy & Innovation for Abbott, Chris Miller.
Daniel Moreno 33’34’’, Jesús Ponce 33’44’’ and Óscar Serrano 35’15’’ finished first in the men's 10 km, while María Lorenzo 38’06’’ was the first to cross the line for the women, ahead of Clara López 38’13’’ and Sara Reimondo 41’01’’. The men's 5 km race was headed by Sergio Salinero 16’23’’, José Ignacio Sánchez 17’12’’ and Alberto Landa 17’16’’. Laura Molina 19’26’’, Alejandra Sánchez 19’28’’ and Tatiana Romero 21’28’’ made the podium for the women.
Proceeds to go to social sports programs
The proceeds from the race will go towards the Foundation's social sports projects with a focus on diversity. Among these is the Emprendeporte program for the unemployed, an initiative which aids some of the participants in the race itself. There was a fine atmosphere all morning, completed by a range of children's races. The event was also sponsored by El Corte Inglés, Coca Cola and Solán de Cabras.
