Real Madrid's ambassador and Under-19s coach, Álvaro Arbeloa, took part in the 5th edition of the Costa Cálida Sport Business Congress held at the Teatro Circo in the Region of Murcia. Arbeloa delivered a presentation on the Real Madrid Foundation in order to raise awareness of how the foundations of sports clubs can play a significant role in society and are a powerful tool for training and education.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this season, the Real Madrid Foundation has reached more than 1,500,000 people, among them direct beneficiaries, people educated in the organisation's unique methodology and the families served. Carried out across five continents, the Foundation's programme uses sport as an educational, development cooperation and social inclusion tool.
Arbeloa described the concept: "Whatever their circumstances or abilities, all children who wish to do so can benefit from educational sport and the human values it transmits. The Foundation's socio sports schools do not discriminate against any child; boys and girls play together twice a week in training sessions focused on values, using the Real Madrid Foundation's unique methodology. Everyone plays the same minutes regardless of their ability and thanks to the scholarship system, we make sure that it is accessible to everyone, particularly the less fortunate".
During the question and answer session, Arbeloa underlined: "There is no bigger reason for success than hard work. People with special talents are the ones who work the hardest. The road is a long one, but it's always there waiting for you".
Other participants
Fernando López Miras, President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, officially opened the event, which also featured, among others, Teresa Perales, swimmer and Paralympic medallist and 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports; Teresa Portela, canoeist and silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympic Games; and the Murcia-born athlete Miguel Ángel López, World Champion, twice European Champion and named best Spanish athlete on four occasions.
