Laso: “The first quarter was decisive”
NEWS.
Pablo Laso and Alberto Abalde assessed the Clásico performance in round 26 of the EuroLeague at the WiZink Center. The coach had the following to say: “The first quarter was decisive. It totally changed our rhythm and we tried to get back into the game too quickly. They built up a lead and the only way for us to recover was play by play, but we just couldn't find the flow of baskets at any time and consequently we couldn't get back into the game. I think we played much better in the second half, but we were up against a great side who opened up a big lead at the start. We have to regroup quickly now because we face Unicaja on Sunday and then we have the Copa del Rey”.

“It’s difficult to win if you only manage 2 out of 22 three-pointers. It’s crucial to be clinical in this sport, but we also have to make better defensive and offensive situations. We need to recover the sense of continuity in our game which we have lost in recent weeks, regardless of the results”.
Impressions
'I don't think about them too much. My obligation as a coach is not to think about the impressions. They can be good or bad and today there were both. We have some aspects where we need to improve to get back to our best, which we’ll need to do to make sure we remain competitive. Nobody likes to lose. We didn’t dominate the areas of play that we should be dominating and that’s concerning going forward. That’s when other teams look to take advantage of your weaknesses”.

Abalde: “We have to recover”
“We got off to a really bad start. We’ve had a really tough run of fixtures and we haven’t played so well in the last few games. Today we weren’t as confident and they took the initiative, which knocked us back. Then we kept going until the end, but we weren’t able to turn the game around”.

“We have to focus on ourselves. We’ve got another game on Sunday, which will be our ninth in three weeks and then the Copa del Rey.We have to learn from our mistakes, make sure we recover physically and regain our focus, because good things will come and we have to fight for them”.
