Laso: 'I'm pleased with the victory because winning in Manresa is no mean feat'
“The team kept going all game and our time came right at the end', explained the coach following the team's triumph over Baxi Manresa.
In his return to the madridista dugout after overcoming COVID-19, Pablo Laso reflected on his team's triumph in Manresa: “I'm really happy with the win and the work put in by the team. It wasn't an easy game for either of the two teams given the situation that we’ve come through in the last few days. It was an even contest and they took advantage of our mistakes and were very strong on the inside and did well on the outside, but despite that the team continued to work hard and our time came right at the end of the game. Winning here is no mean feat and you’ve got to really praise Manresa for the season they're having”.
“It was a very attractive match-up. We could have done better defensively, but it was a very open game and there was a lot of points scored from the outside at key times. We managed to read the situations well and produced some good work in defense and some good attacks, which is what turned the game in our favor. I'm pleased that we’re back in action because it’s been a long time since we last played”.
Tempo following break and suspension of EuroLeague game
“Teams get into a tempo and we can see there are teams who play one game per week and that suits them really well, in contrast there are teams that play twice a week and are fine and with that in terms of their tempo. As for the suspension of the EuroLeague match against Kazan, it forces us to reorganise everything, but I'm really happy with how the team has reacted to all of the situations that we’ve faced. I’ve got a great coaching and medical team and a great set of players. We have to look ahead and believe that it’s possible that our game could be suspended in less than 48 hours’ time”.
Opposition
“I wasn't surprised because a team that’s managed as many wins as they have means that they are a well-drilled team. I'm really impressed by the performance from Manresa and I honestly can't see them dropping down the table throughout the rest of the season. Pedro Martínez is doing a good job and they are a very competitive and difficult team to beat”.
Rudy’s performance
“He produced a lot of decisive situations during the course of the game and that's what makes him the great player he is. People will point to his treys, but he produced a great overall performance and I'm delighted with him. He's a very important player for us. However, the whole team worked really well and was aware that this was a tough match. We had to face up to making a return to competitive action”.
