Chus Mateo: “We'll have to be solid defensively if we want to win in Granada”
“Having just the one game this week has been great to allow us to recover,' highlighted the coach.
Chus Mateo spoke in the build-up to Coviran Granada-Real Madrid on matchday eight in the League Sunday, 12:30pm CET: “They have only won one game but they are proving a tough team to beat. Their defeats have been by very few points and even in over-time. The fans really get behind their team at home and they score a lot of points. We'll have to be solid defensively if we want to beat them.'
“Having just the one game this week has been great to allow us to recover. The last couple of months have been hugely demanding and now the key thing is not to lose that competitive rhythm. The competition carried on for other teams but we have had to adapt a little bit to the suspension of the Maccabi game. Now we're playing at a place where it's always hard to come. They might not be very high up the table but they are not an easy team to play against.'
Yabusele's condition
“He's feeling better after some rest and now we'll see if he's playing at the top level.'
Being named coach of the year
“It's lovely to have your colleagues vote for you as the best coach last season but it's still an individual award in a collective sport. Of course, I'm very proud of it. What's more, the award is named after Antonio Díaz-Miguel, one of the fathers of Spanish basketball, so that makes it an even greater honour. But this award is really for the players, they're the ones who win games. If I have to share it with anyone, of course it would be with my coaching staff too. It's a nice touch but we're focused on the work we are doing.'
