Chus Mateo: “We showed a good mentality and were good in defence”

Chus Mateo analysed his side’s victory over Carplus Fuenlabrada on matchday six of the Liga Endesa: “Our strong start set the tone of the game. We showed a good mentality and we were good in defence. We did really well in the first two quarters. The third wasn’t our best, but we improved again in the fourth. We took a big step forward in terms of how we need to perform”.
“We were more consistent. This is what we have to do and we’re looking to maintain that consistency, but sometimes it’s difficult for us to find it. We’re a team with some new features and we have to work on understanding the philosophy that we’re looking for”.

“The approach we’re looking for is that everyone contributes to a greater or lesser extent. Some possess offensive qualities and others have defensive capabilities. We were soft at the back at the start of the third quarter and they took advantage of that in the zone. Then when we defended better, they weren't comfortable in the paint”.

“Every victory feels good. A lot of players have done well and this win boosts our confidence. This is a long-distance race. We can make mistakes, but we have to be in a good position to face the final stretch of the league. Beating an opponent that’s been playing really well helps us to continue in the same vein. We can't give up with the demanding calendar we have”.
