Chus Mateo: 'We have to finish the Regular Season strongly'
'Gran Canaria have managed to win the Eurocup and it won’t be easy to beat them', said the coach.
Chus Mateo spoke to the press ahead of the clash with Gran Canaria, on matchday 33 of the Liga Endesa Sunday, 1.30 pm CET: “We only have two games left in the league and we have to finish strongly. Of course we can't forget that on Wednesday we go to Kaunas and we have an important fixture in the Final Four. We'll try to do well here against a team that's doing really well.”
“They've managed to win the Eurocup and it won't be easy to beat Gran Canaria because they're playing extremely well. We'll try to do our best by rotating our players so that the packed schedule doesn't take its toll on their physical condition. Today we'll try to regain our strength after a demanding trip.”
The opposition
“Gran Canaria are playing extremely well. They've been very solid defensively and they have players who can score freely. They're at home, which doesn't make it easy and it never has been. They're also showing great consistency and are playing at EuroLeague level. We have to take our losses seriously, be very careful with their rebounding and keep their scorers in check. They're a very complete team and we have to be very vigilant with them.”
Objective
“We have to get through this match without any injuries, which is the most important thing for us. We have to try to perform well with the competitive tempo that we set. Yesterday in Valencia it worked out well for us because we had a very solid game and we didn't give minutes to the guys we need to keep fresh. This schedule is relentless, we can't train and we use the games to keep up that competitive tempo.”
