On this day 42 years ago, Real Madrid's basketball team won the Club World Cup in Sao Paulo. On the 5th of July 1981, our team got the better of the home side, EC Sirio, 109-83, to round off a superb tournament in which they went unbeaten throughout.
Led by Lolo Sainz, Madrid showed their dominance from the tip-off and went into half-time with a comfortable advantage over the Brazilian team 54-36. Following the break they increased their lead until the end of the game, with superb performances by Delibasic 33 points, Brabender 28 and Rullán 23.
