Real Madrid won their 25th basketball league title 38 years ago. It was on 10 May 1986 that the team coached by Lolo Sainz became champions after beating Barcelona away from home in the second game of the final. It was the third consecutive LaLiga that our team had won, the only side up to that point to have won under the ACB format.

Real Madrid travelled to Barcelona with an advantage in the final after winning the first game 83-80. Lolo Sainz's team had the chance to settle the series in the second game and did exactly that. Barcelona came out very strong and went into half-time leading (41-35), but our team, led by a great Fernando Martín, who scored 26 points, and Townes, who scored 20, turned the game around to win 86-88 in a thrilling final stretch.
