Real Madrid sets the record for the best ever first half to a Euroleague season
Chus Mateo's team have won 16 of their 17 games.
With the win against Asvel Villeurbanne, their 16th in 17 games, Real Madrid achieved the best first half in the history of the Euroleague. Chus Mateo's side continue to break records this season and on this occasion surpassed Barça's record of 15 wins in the 2021/22 season.
The reigning European champions have won all but one of their first round games, the one they lost to Fenerbahçe by one point and in the last second of overtime. Under the current Euroleague format, which came into effect in the 2020/21 campaign, no one has been able to do that. Not Barça, champion Efes, CSKA Moscow or Olympiacos.
Spectacular stats
Chus Mateo's side have won all eight games played at the WiZink Center and the same number away. Madrid are the undisputed leaders of the competition and seven of their victories have been by 16 points or more. They started the Euroleague with 10 consecutive victories and have now won six in a row. Their superiority is also reflected in the statistics: they are the best in PIR, points, assists, defensive rebounds and blocks.
