Río Breogán-Real Madrid: the league leaders seek ninth straight win on the road

After the Euroleague win against Bayern Munich at the WiZink Center last Thursday, Real Madrid embark on a series of three very demanding away games over the next eight days Thursday against Maccabi and Sunday's Clásico in Lugo. Today they take on ninth-placed Río Breogán on league matchday 26 with the aim of winning their 22nd game, staying at the top of the table and securing their place in the playoffs.

It will be a tricky trip for the leader to one of the most complicated courts in the ACB. Our team will look to build on their run of eight consecutive away wins in the league, where they have not lost since the beginning of November 2022. They beat Bayern convincingly, putting their defensive prowess on display and today they will have to give it their all once again. Although the Galicians have lost four of their last six games, they are having a very good season overall, are still a dangerous side and will be able to count on the added support of the Pazo Provincial dos Deportes in Lugo behind them.
We will need to focus on rebounding more than ever if we hope to come away with a positive result. Although Madrid is the best in this department, they still face an opponent that is renowned for its offensive rebounding. The stage is well and truly set. In addition, two of the most dominant power forwards in the competition ready themselves to go head to head; Tavares, with the second highest index rating 18.3, faces off against Happ, the top rebounder 7.7. Their other key player is the shooting guard Bamforth. The absence of Poirier has provided Randolph with extra playing time and he has proven that he is back to full fitness in the two games he has played.

Hezonja's sweet spell
Another player who has been at a spectacular level is the Croatian. In the last two wins against Coviran Granada and Bayern, the forward averaged 19 points, 4.5 three-pointers and 18.5 in index rating points. Madrid are  guaranteed a spot in the playoffs if they beat Río Breogán. The leader is nine wins ahead of ninth, which is precisely the opponent's postition for this afternoon's tie, with nine games remaining. Tavares led the 91-73 win at the WiZink Center in the first leg, scoring 31 index rating points.
