Barça-Real Madrid: Whites out for first Clásico scalp of season
The Whites, who have won their last eight games against the Catalans, visit the Palau on EuroLeague matchday nine (8.30 pm CET).
Real Madrid and Barça are set to face each other for the first time this season in the EuroLeague on matchday nine at the Palau Blaugrana. The Whites will be looking to extend their winning run in the Clásico, having racked up eight consecutive victories since the league semi-finals in 2024.
In a competition in which only two wins separate first and 12th place, Barcelona (5-3) are one win ahead of Real Madrid (4-4). Scariolo's men come off the back of their first away win in the league last weekend after beating Casademont Zaragoza (83-95) and will be looking to replicate that success in the EuroLeague, where they have been unbeatable at home (4-0).
Real Madrid go into the contest on the back of their best performance in the EuroLeague against reigning champions Fenerbahce (84-58), but Barcelona will demand a solid 40 minutes from them. Peñarroya's side boast the third-best attack in the competition (86.6 points) and are second in three-point percentage (39.7%). Their main focal points are two of the new signings, Shengelia and Clyburn, although Punter, Satoransky and Vesely are also performing excellently. It will be a demanding test for the Madridista defence, the second-lowest conceding defence in the EuroLeague (79.9).
Whites gunning for ninth Clásico win on the bounce
Madrid have claimed the last 8 Clásicos. A streak that began on 29 April 2024 with the first meeting in the ACB semi-finals. The Whites won 3-0 to reach the final (97-78, 104-98 and 92-95). Last season there were full of victories: Super Cup semi-finals (89-83), two in the league (73-71 and 89-91) and the two in the EuroLeague (90-97 and 96-91). The last one in this competition at the Palau was etched in the memory of this rivalry with the victory of our team by 90-97 after two overtimes.
