Zidane: “We know what Ramos can do from set pieces”

NEWS | 21/01/2017 | Javier García

"I'm worried about the injuries, I'm not concerned by anything else", insisted the Whites' boss.
Zidane faced the media in the wake of his side's victory over Málaga, which secures top spot in the league at the halfway point of the season: “We won the game, we started strongly and created chances. The disappointing thing is that we didn't take all of those chances. After the game, the team were pleased because we picked up all three points despite the difficulties we had”.

“With the chances we had, 2-1 is a fair result. We're struggling to score goals at the moment and our opponents are hurting us when they get on the front foot. We have to look at it calmly, because that's how the biggest improvements are made. Now it's time to rest up because there is another match just around the corner”.

Ramos the goal scorer

“We know what Sergio can do, especially from set pieces. He was exceptional today, he had two shots and scored two goals. I'm happy with his goals, but I'm a bit fed up with the injuries because we've got a lot of games ahead and I'm a bit downbeat. We've got an important game on Wednesday and we'll have to see what happens”.

Knocks for Modric and Marcelo
"Luka had a bit of discomfort but I hope it's not too serious. Marcelo is a bit more difficult, we'll find out tomorrow after the scan”.

Danilo
“He's also carrying a knock and couldn't play. He was on the bench, and even though he wanted to play, it wasn't a good idea to let him do so. He felt a bit of discomfort again after training and he wasn't 100% this morning so we didn't want to risk him”.

Our aim is to give our all to get our hands on some silverware come the end of the season.

"Castilla are playing away this weekend, so it would have been a case of drafting someone in from lower down, from the Juvenil A team, that's just the way it panned out. Had the Castilla team been here in Madrid, I would have called up a member of their squad instead of Danilo, who was suffering with some discomfort".

Lucas in the wing-back role
"Lucas performed well, but I don't like to have to play him there because he's not a wing-back. As always, he did a fantastic job, despite it not being his position".

The supporters
"I hope that was just them being demanding. I understand the fans because they always demand more of their players. At times, when things are going against you, we need our fans to drive us on and to get behind us. I'm not going to criticise them, because they pay their money and want to see more from their team. At times, when a team has played a lot of games and is affected by injures, the players are in need of a bit of love, as is the coach".

A lack of goals
"You've got to be patient. Whilst Karim and Cristiano have failed to score in the last two games, it's not something that concerns me. I'm worried about the injuries, I'm not concerned by anything else. I can't tell you exactly why we're struggling in front of goal. We're less clinical right now, but I'm not worried by that. This result is good for our morale".

LaLiga leaders at the halfway stage
"Our aim is to give everything to ensure that we lift some silverware come the end of the season. Being top at the halfway stage doesn't count for anything, but I'd still like to congratulate everyone because it's no mean feat and we've pulled it off. You've always got to be wary and we've got another game on Wednesday. What's bothering me at the moment are the injuries".
