On 24 December 1989, Alfredo Di Stéfano was presented with the Super Ballon d'Or. Having receiving more votes than Cruyff and Platini, France Football magazine awarded the accolade to the Real Madrid legend in recognition of his phenomenal career. 26 years on and The Blond Arrow is still the only footballer to have ever win this award.

The greatest player of all time captivated the world as he led a Real Madrid team that clinched all five of the first European Cups. During his playing days he won the Ballon d'Or on two occasions, in 1957 and 1959.
