Defeat in Mallorca

Real Madrid came away empty handed after conceding an own goal and missing a penalty.

Real Madrid slipped to defeat away at Mallorca in a game in which the visitors trailed since the early stages. The home side took the lead in the 13th minute with an unfortunate goal from a Madrid point of view. Dani Rodríguez floated in a cross from the left and the ball looped off Nacho’s head, having touched Muriqi just before, and over Lunin into the back of the net. The madridistas had to take the game to Mallorca, but they were unable to carve out many first-half opportunities due to the many disruptions in play. The hosts defended resolutely and Madrid were reduced to shots from distance that failed to trouble Rajkovic.

After the re-start, Ancelotti‘s men had a golden chance to draw level. In the 58th minute, Rajkovic brought down Vini Jr. inside the area. Asensio drilled the penalty towards the bottom-right corner but the Mallorca keeper dived to push the ball wide. This was Real Madrid’s best spell of the game, and the Whites almost made it 1-1 one minute later when Vini Jr. got to the by-line and his shot from a tight angle was saved by the keeper.

Video.1-0: Defeat in Mallorca

Real Madrid, who were on the receiving end of a total of 29 fouls, kept plugging away, but were unable to find a way past the Mallorca defence as the hosts worked tirelessly. The visitors came within a whisker of equalising in the 88th minute when a cross by Rodrygo was acrobatically met by Mariano, but his effort narrowly missed the target. In stoppage time, Rüdiger saw his header go agonisingly wide of the goal.
