Triumph secures Copa Sentimiento crown

Real Madrid Women were crowned Copa Sentimiento winners after overcoming Real Sociedad in the final played in Tajonar. Alberto Toril’s charges, who chalked up a second win of the pre-season campaign, put in an outstanding first-half showing, in which Esther, Weir and Rocío were all on target.  Our team hit the front with barely two minutes on the clock, when Zornoza found Feller, who teed up Esther on the edge of the area to open the scoring. Real Madrid continued to pour forward and doubled their money with 28 minutes played. Esther sent in a driven cross that found Weir, who made it 2-0. Toril’s charges continued to lay siege to the opposition’s goal and Esthercame close to adding to her tally, only to be denied by the frame of the goal. 

Real Madrid did indeed add to their lead before the interval. Toletti flicked on a corner kick into the path of Rocío, who was left with the simplest of tasks of turning the ball home. There was no change to the script following the restart as Athenea came close to adding her name to the scoresheet with a volleyed effort from a Teresa cross. The tempo of the contest dropped as the game wore on, but Toril's troops continued to attack in numbers in search of another goal. However, no further goals materialised and our team clinched the Copa Sentimiento crown after seeing off Real Sociedad. Weir claimed the Player of the Tournament award.
