Hezonja joins Real Madrid

The Croatian small forward averaged 14.2 points and 6.8 rebounds last time out in the EuroLeague.

Mario Hezonja (25/02/1995, Dubrovnik, Croatia) has joined Real Madrid for the next two seasons. At 27, the Croatian small forward is one of the most talented players on the European basketball scene. In last season's EuroLeague, he averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and a 14.2 of PIR, and possesses experience in both the ACB and NBA.
Measuring in at 2.06m and boasting a strong physique, Hezonja is able to operate in any of the outside positions. He offers good ball control, is a prolific scorer and strong on rebounds (average seven in last season's VTB League). He took his first steps in the game in the academy at KK Dubrovnik, where he made his Croatian league bow at the tender age of 13. He then made the switch to KK Zagreb before moving to to Spain, where he represented FC Barcelona from 2012 to 2015.

He racked up 64 games in his first spell in the ACB. He debuted in the Spanish league at the age of 18 years and almost two months and by the time he was 19, he had already produced several performances featuring over 20 points and a PIR of 20. Hezonja was drafted in the number-5 role by the Orlando Magic and spent three seasons with the NBA side. He also turned out for two household names in the US competition in the shape of the Knicks and Blazers. He returned to Europe with Panathinaikos in the 2020/21 season and captured a league and cup double.

He played for Unics Kazan last season and enjoyed a sensational campaign in the EuroLeague. He clocked up 25 appearances and finished in the Top 8 for points and rebounds, with percentages of 52.4% on two-pointers and 34.9% on triples.
