“We had more control in the second half but we never got that big chance”, reflected the coach.
Carlo Ancelotti appeared before the press following Real Madrid's meeting with Villarreal on LaLiga matchday seven. The coach explained: “We've kept a clean sheet and that's a positive after our recent games. If you don't have your best night, it's tough to beat Villarreal. We're still at the top of LaLiga and that's the main thing. It wasn't our best display of the season because Villarreal kept the ball well, but back near the goalkeeper so I wasn't too concerned. I was disappointed with how we struggled to press”.

“I don't think the approach was wrong. It was tough to play between the lines because they defended very well. We found it difficult in the first half because we couldn't control Capoue. We had more control in the second half but we never got that big chance. We showed more intensity but it wasn't easy to press them because they moved the ball very well".

Praise for Courtois
“We're fortunate to have a goalkeeper like Courtois. He did a great job, especially in the first half. Militão and Alaba were fantastic too”.

We're fortunate to have a goalkeeper like Courtois.

“I’ve not seen the possible penalty on Nacho and so can’t comment on it. I looked to me like a foul outside the box and he then continued on into the box, but I wasn’t able to see the incident or whether there was contact”.

Valverde at right-back
“I enjoyed his performance and he’s capable of playing anywhere on the pitch. We’ll have to see which is his strongest position. I don’t believe that it’s at right-back, but we started with two wingers and didn’t need the full-backs to push on all that much. Asensio and Modrić played between the lines on each side. We managed to get plenty of crosses over, but they’ve got real height at the heart of their defence”.

Modrić and Casemiro
“I didn’t see them as being really tired. It may have looked that way because the team struggled to press in the first 45 minutes. It wasn’t down to tiredness and was more about the team’s willingness and we addressed that in the second half. Both of them did really well out there because when you play with Vinicius Jr., Hazard, Isco, Benzema up top… When Camavinga came on they did well”.
