"All of the penalties went against us tonight and it was a bad day at the office", declared the boss.
Zinedine Zidane spoke in the press room at Mestalla after the match between Valencia and Real Madrid. The French coach said: "We played well for the first half hour but after the goal we crumbled and the dynamic of what we were doing changed. That was a turning point as after that everything went wrong for us: 3 penalties, an own goal.... It' s a bit difficult to explain our performance today. We started well and after the equaliser everything has changed".

"I'm not going to get involved with the referees. They do their job, and I always choose an eleven and everyone can have their say. They are all Real Madrid players and they have to perform. We have to perform but today was a difficult game. There's no explanation or excuses. The way we were playing just changed. We made a strong start, but tailed off after the goal. The three penalties all went against us tonight and it was a poor performance, a bad day at the office".

"We know we have to be strong defensively. That's what it's all about. If we're strong and have good balance, we know that in attacking areas we've got the players capable of making the difference. Tonight's was a tough match, particularly after the equaliser and the whole complexion of the game changed".

"I don't think that Valencia outperformed us tactically. I think we prepared well for the game. We got off to a good start and it's true that everything changed after the goal and it's difficult to understand why. I'm the one who's ultimately responsible for everything because I have to seek solutions during the course of the game and we didn't change things around after conceding".
