NEWS | 18/04/2020A spirit that remains intact 118 years on from the club's foundation.
The history of madridismo is full of examples where a supportive spirit has come to the fore. The earliest of these and which the clubs has photo record of are the initiatives carried out with the Red Cross, a collaboration that featured in the Spanish comedy, Tres de la Cruz Roja. The staging of the annual Día de la banderita has now virtually become a regular fixture. This event goes back to the days when Santiago Bernabéu's wife, María Valenciano, took part and is still celebrated today.
The collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross has been extended over the course of the past decade with the Corazón Classic Match, which raises funds for needy children and the running of common socio-sporting projects to cater for the homeless and minors living in vulnerable situations across Spain. This collaboration is similar to the campaign against cancer, which involves various organisations, including the AECC (Spanish Association Against Cancer), Make a wish, Pequeño Deseo and Juegaterapia.
For the past 22 years, the Foundation has coordinated Real Madrid's solidarity work to assist the most needy in the world. The institution runs over 1,000 projects across 100 countries and caters for over 100,000 participants. Once again, the club's supporters have shown just what a great team we are and have become the 12th man to fill the Bernabéu with shows of solidarity.
