La Fundación Real Madrid y MBRGI colaborarán durante los próximos tres años

The Foundation and MBRGI will collaborate during the next three years

NEWS | 15/01/2020

Butragueño went to Dubai to present this alliance that will serve to develop socio-sporting schools in the Middle East and North Africa.
The Real Madrid Foundation has signed a collaboration agreement with Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) for the development of ten socio-sporting football schools in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Uzbekistan. Over the next three years, 4,500 children between the ages of 6 and 17 are expected to benefit. The presentation, held in Dubai, was attended by Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations at Real Madrid; Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee; and Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet and Future Affairs and Secretary-General of MBRGI.

The President of the UAE National Olympic Committee said: "We are pleased to cooperate with the Real Madrid Foundation. Sport is an effective tool to foster a culture of hope in our young generation. Our aim is to train young players in different fields so that they become role models for their countries and the world. Our message to young people is that nothing is impossible with the will to achieve positive change.

Butragueño: "Sport is an effective educational tool"

Sara Al Nuaimi, director of the Office of Global Initiatives of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: "The collaboration to establish ten non-profit academies with the Real Madrid Foundation meets MBRGI's objectives to bring about positive change in the Arab world through the development of strategic partnerships with global organisations to implement programs that foster a culture of hope".

Emilio Butragueño explained that "both entities share common objectives to harness the positive values of sport, particularly football, in service to communities. Sport is an effective educational tool that can make a difference to developing nations".

In this first phase, socio-sports schools will be set up in the cities of Tangier and Ben Guerir in Morocco, Alexandria in Egypt and Fuheis in Jordan, together with a joint project between Al Baqa'a and the Irbid refugee camps. In the second phase there will be two schools in Egypt, two in Uzbekistan and one in the Jordanian-Emirati refugee camp Mrajeeb Al Fhood, supervised by the Emirates Red Crescent.
