The first socio-sporting basketball school opens in Guatemala

The program will benefit more than 50 kids and is run in collaboration with the Fundación Carlos F. Novella.
The Real Madrid Foundation, in collaboration with the Fundación Carlos F. Novella, have opened their first basketball program in Guatemala in the socio-sporting school located in Zona 6 capitalina. It aims to provide opportunities to children by teaching values through sport. At this stage, it will benefit more than 60 young people between 5 and 12 years of age.
President of the Fundación Carlos F. Novella, Cecilia Dougherty, explained: "By incorporating basketball in our schools, we hope to continue achieving success and making sure more children can participate in the comprehensive education program”.

The move sees the Fundación Carlos F. Novella attempt to diversify the opportunities it provides for children in contributing to their integral development and avoiding this group in society become involved in criminal activity.
Since 2012, the strategic alliance between the Real Madrid Foundation and the Fundación Carlos F. Novella has been offering young people in Guatemala the chance to complement regular education with sports and socio-educational activities using the Real Madrid Foundation methodology. To date, more than 1,130 boys and girls have benefitted from the six socio-sporting schools.
