Zidane: "We want to sign off with a win in front of our fans"

"We'll try and make the fans proud of us all", commented the coach.
Zinedine Zidane took to the media room at Real Madrid City after having overseen his side's final training session ahead of Sunday's meeting with Betis (12:00 noon CET) at the Bernabéu: "The message is clear. Tomorrow's is the last game of the season and we've had a good final week's work to now go and end the season on a high. We want to sign off with a good performance and a win in front of our fans. It's been a tough year and I want to let everyone know that we're focused on next season and will come back full of hope and put in the hard work so as to make them proud of our players".

"We performed poorly against Real Sociedad, although it wasn't a poor performance throughout because we made a strong start. We've got a game tomorrow where we've got the chance to finish on a high and to make the fans proud of us. This club wins a lot of silverware and it's tough when you don't win anything. We've got to put in a good display tomorrow and give a good account of ourselves against a Betis side who'll also want to sign off for the season with a good performance, despite the fact that there's nothing at stake for them".

Next season
"We need to alter the account that we give of ourselves and we'll be putting our efforts into doing so. I'm not saying that we're going to win the lot next season, but we're going to prepare to have a great year. It's been a tough campaign and the best thing is that it's now nearly over. However, tomorrow we've got an opportunity to go out and perform well".

"He'll be part of the squad tomorrow and that's all I can tell you. You'll see the side that we put out. I don't know whether this will be his last game. We're at the end of the season and next year there'll be changes, but I don't know whether this will be his last game or not".

No.1 spot
"I'll tell you who's the No.1 and the No.2 at the start of next season. It's my decision. Who do you think names the team? I'm the coach and obviously I'm always going to do what I want. If that wasn't the case, I'd be gone. In terms of the signings, we've got people here at the club that work on it and we work together. But me and my coaching staff are the ones who name the starting XI and the bench".

Possible farewell for Navas
"That's not the way I see things, I'm not thinking and nor do I want to think about next season. There's a lot of talk about what's going to happen: that so and so-and-so is staying and so-and-so is leaving, that I've said goodbye to Keylor, that I want him to leave… We've got a game tomorrow and what I've said is that the situation regarding the goalkeepers next season will be crystal clear. That's all there is to it. We'll have to see what happens".

"You can write what you like, I don't tell any lies. Who knows what I've said to Keylor? Nobody. Only he and I. I've spoken to all of them, we always say the same thing: we're going to have a good end to the season and will see what happens next year. Keylor is under contract and we'll see how things go".

"That's not something that we should be talking about. You'd need to ask the player what he's going to do. I believe that he has bid farewell to his club and you'd have to ask him where he's going".

"I'm not going to say anything. You're here to ask questions but of the 20 questions I've had, none of them have been about the game. We're here to think about tomorrow's match and that alone. The only thing that interest me is us putting in a good performance tomorrow".

Transfers between Real Madrid & Atlético
"In football, anything can happen and players can go from one club to another. However, I'm not going to get into that".

His farewell as a player
"I announced it well in advance, it was different. I don't know what the others here think. Everyone has a contract and it's different to how things were with me back in the day. We'll have to see what happens in the coming months. I won't have much of a holiday because I have to prepare for next season".

"All players who play key roles for their clubs, like the Lyon player you're talking about, are of interest. But I'm not going to talk about Mendy or anybody else because it's not the right time. There'll be plenty of time to talk about what we want to do next season. Every good player has a chance of coming here".

"We're all part of the game and you've got to accept what people say. The things that are being said aren't fair and I'm not saying that because he's my son but because he's a player who came through the trials and has been playing for many years. He's proved that he's a top goalkeeper. Next season things will be clear and that goes for him too. I haven't asked anything of the club, I haven't asked that he be our No.2. That decision will be made, he's a member of the squad and it just happens that he's my son and that gets people talking".
