REPORT | 25/04/2019Real Madrid got a valuable point after a combative game at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez
- La Liga
- Matchday 34
Zidane’s team dominated the ball from the off, but Getafe stood their ground and were well organised at the back. The Whites tried to get around the back of the defence. Bordalás’ side tried their best with some dead balls. An Arambarri free-kick tested Keylor on 31’ but that was about the most dangerous of Getafe first half attempts. Real Madrid looked for more depth after the break. A good combination between Brahim and Benzema saw the French star fire in a shot that was deflected out for a corner by Ignasi Miquel (35’). Casemiro took the corner but could not create any real danger. Shortly after, Bale tore off down the left to try to set up Benzema, but the calm and collected Soria was on hand to keep it out (39’).
The pace of the game picked up following the restart and the chances began to come. The first fell to Getafe on 47’ when a Cabrera header flew over the bar. Brahim responded swiftly with a nice individual move but his shot from inside the box skimmed wide. Madrid were streaming forward in attack now and both Casemiro and Carvajal tested Soria with efforts from range. The clearest opportunity of this positive spell came for Isco, who latched on to a lovely Carvajal pass, but his shot was blocked by Bruno (56’).
With 30 minutes to go, much of Madrid’s good work was coming from the boots of an inspired Brahim. The Malaga-born ace produced another sublime moment of skill but was once again foiled by Soria. Zidane shuffled his pack in search of the elusive goal, brining on Lucas and Asensio, while Getafe were biding their time. Their moment could have come with 73 minutes on the clock as Jorge Molina and then Mata enjoyed a double chance but Navas stood strong. Kroos was the final madridista change (78’). The hosts upped the pressure in the closing stages and Samu Saiz forced Navas into another fine save in the 89th minute to ensure the game finished goalless.
