This year's opponents are AC Milan, a club which has seven European Cup crowns to its name. The Italians, who are managed by former player Genaro Gattuso, are currently fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the Serie A campaign, which kicks off on 19 August. Tonight's encounter will see the Milan outfit contest the Santiago Bernabéu Trophy for a fourth time, with the visitors having lifted the trophy in 1988 and 1990.

Real Madrid, who tonight face their first outing of the season in front of the home supporters, have secured the last 12 editions of the competition.
