NEWS | 27/05/2018The squad, the coaching staff and the Board of Directors visited the Almudena Cathedral, the Community of Madrid headquarters and the City Council.
The first stop was the cathedral, where the team offered the title to the Virgen de la Almudena. Florentino Pérez spoke: "This Real Madrid is a great family, in which values are the main pillars in the search for success. These players have once again shown that with team spirit and the desire to excel, you can achieve what almost everyone considered impossible: three Champions Leagues in a row. They are unique times but this team is very aware that their strength, in addition, they must stick together".
Monsignor Jesus Vidal, auxiliary bishop of Madrid, welcomed the team to the cathedral: "This is the home of all those who live in Madrid. A victory like the one you have achieved can not be achieved without a magnificent effort. Many kids look at you and your example is important. You are an important example for young people and I encourage you to help build a more caring world". The visit concluded with a wreath being laid and a team photos.
Real Madrid frenzy
The next destination was the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the Community of Madrid, where President Ángel Garrido was waiting for them. There was an exchange of gifts. Florentino Pérez and Sergio Ramos presented him with a replica of the trophy and two dedicated t-shirts and in return the president of the Community gave them a commemorative plaque. One of the most anticipated moments came when the players took to the balcony to parade the title to the Real Madrid fans who packed the plaza de sol.
Florentino Pérez highlighted the merit of the team: "We continue making history. Last Monday you received us here, in the house of everyone from Madrid, to celebrate the tenth European basketball cup and today we return with the thirteenth in football. This is the best club in history. This badge and this shirt never give up. We are living an era of total glory in an institution that is part of the hearts of millions of people on every continent. Because this Real Madrid belongs to everyone and this Decimotercera represents what we are".
Ramos: "This team has shown pride and ambition"
"I want to thank the welcome you always give us here. Tomorrow we will value the great team we have. Thank you very much for the unconditional support to everyone. This team has shown that it has pride and ambition and that it never tires of winning. That is the key to success". After the captain, Ángel Garrido closed the speeches: "It’s a pleasure to pay tribute to the best club in the world, Real Madrid. What you have achieved is heroic, you make the impossible possible. You have left everything on the field to get this great victory and, on behalf of all of Madrid, thank you very much and Hala Madrid!".
The last institutional stop was the Town Hall, where there was another exchange of gifts. Florentino Pérez and Sergio Ramos presented a replica of the trophy and two t-shirts dedicated to Manuela Carmena and she replied with some commemorative chocolate medals. "They have achieved a wonderful, superior and incalculably important feat. They have won three consecutive Champions Leagues. Yesterday I could see how Kiev was full of Madrid fans, that they appreciate in a special way this unique and insurmountable club", said the mayor.
A triumph of everyone
Finally, Florentino Pérez said: "This club is eternal and these players and this coach are legendary. They are starring in one of the biggest stages of modern football. Dear Mayor, we are here for the first time as European champions in football and basketball in the same year. A legendary double that, of course, also belongs to this wonderful city that is Madrid".
