Real Madrid have set themselves well on the way to a Copa del Rey quarter-final spot. Bale and Isco both converted penalties before Borja Mayoral's header saw the Whites beat Numancia soundly at the Estadio Los Pajaritos to turn the last-sixteen tie firmly in their favour ahead of next Wednesday's decider at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The first half's only goal came on 35 minutes when Lucas Vázquez was upended in the area by Carlos Gutiérrez and Bale made no mistake to beat Munir from the spot. Despite Real Madrid's dominance, there had only really been three clear chances prior to the spot-kick. The first fell to Numancia, but Higinio's shot across goal skimmed past Casilla's far post.

Opportunities
The other two big opportunities went the way of the Whites. Lucas Vázquez was particularly lively and his curling effort flew into the side netting on 19’, before with half an hour gone, Borja Mayoral had a great chance to increase the deficit but his effort from an Asensio free-kick out wide just failed to find the target.

THE TIE WILL BE DECIDED NEXT WEDNESDAY AT THE BERNABEÚ

The second half started with a clear chance for the visitors. Carvajal beat a Numancia defender with some deft ball control in the box before dispatching to Lucas Vázquez, whose shot from around the penalty spot had just too much on it, sailing high. Numancia went a man down after Diamanka was sent off following a second yellow on 60 minutes and in the same minute Zidane saw fit to give Kovacic a run out in place of Bale.

Numancia had the chance to pull level on 76 minutes despite having just 10 players, but the long-range shot from Íñigo Pérez, which went over Casilla’s head, hit the crossbar and did not cross the goal line. Isco had a fine chance to extend the Whites’ lead after he came on for Ceballos on 74’. Beautiful team play had it all but on a plate for the midfielder. But his left footed shot after controlling it well with his right, flew over the bar with just six minutes left on the clock.

Isco and Mayoral round off the night
0-1 simply was not enough for Real Madrid, they wanted to kill the tie off altogether, and right at the death, they did so. The second goal came after another penalty was awarded, this time for a foul on Lucas Vázquez, who was brought down by Medina in the 88th. Isco rifled home from the spot. Then, in added time, Borja Mayoral appeared to bury a header following a measured cross from Achraf. Real Madrid have started off 2018 with a win.
