REPORT | 28/11/2017 | Javier GarcíaBale was instrumental on his return and had a hand in both of Real Madrid's goals against Fuenlabrada.
- Copa del Rey
- Round of 32 (Second-Leg)
Real Madrid failed to convert their early dominance into goalscoring opportunities and Fuenlabrada were first to pose a threat, with Hugo Fraile and Matheus both testing Keylor Navas. The Whites patiently sprayed the ball around, but Fuenlabrada it was who forged ahead on 25', courtesy of a thumping Luis Milla effort from range. Zidane's charges pushed up in search of an equaliser and just before the break, efforts from Marcos Llorente, Dani Ceballos and Fran Feuillassier all failed to trouble the scoreboard.
Real Madrid stepped things up a gear after the break with Tejero trying his luck from distance. But Fuenlabrada stuck to their task and went in search of a second goal through set pieces. First Matheus brought the best out of Keylor Navas with a headed effort, before Cata Diaz struck the woodwork. Zidane looked to change things, bringing on Gareth Bale, who with his first involvement delivered an inch-perfect cross for Mayoral who drew the Whites level on the night with a headed effort (62').
Eight minutes later, the pair combined again to complete the comeback with Mayoral on hand to put his side in front. Bale picked up a ball from deep in his own half after a shot from Pol, he then released Mayoral, who fired home his second. At 2-1 Real Madrid looked to increase their lead but in the 89th minute it was Portilla who got the equaliser for Fuenlabrada. Zidane’s side now switch their attention to the draw for the last 16 which will take place next Tuesday.
