40 matches unbeaten, a Spanish footballing record

NEWS | 12/01/2017

Real Madrid make history by surpassing the longest unbeaten run in Spanish football.
Zidane's Real Madrid made history in the Sánchez Pizjuán, with the draw against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey last sixteen seeing them make it 40 matches unbeaten, eclipsing the longest official record in Spanish football: the 39 games managed by Barcelona last season.

The last game that Real Madrid lost was back in April 2016 (against Wolfsburg). Since then, Real Madrid have been immaculate, notching 30 wins and 9 draws. This impressive run has seen the club lift their last three titles: the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

At 40 games, they are currently tied with the number recorded by Nottingham Forest in 1978. The next milestone for the madridistas is the 42-game unbeaten run managed by Milan in the 1991-92 season.
