The Portuguese striker had the following to say upon collecting the distinction: "All of my trophies end up in my museum. It was a year full of emotions and I can't ask for any more than having won the Champions League, the European Cup, renewing my contract with Real Madrid and picking up this accolade. I'm happy and these awards provide me with the added motivation to try and perform better and go on and win more silverware".
"It was season that was full of emotions, but we've got to focus on the here and now. LaLiga is always very competitive, but it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. We'll be in the hunt, just like we always are. We must continue to work hard because it's through hard work that you reap your rewards".
Butragueño: "After Di Stéfano, he has probably been our most important player"
Emilio Butragueño was full of praise for Real Madrid's all-time leading goalscorer: "It's a privilege that he's playing in our league and an honour that a player of his standing is at Real Madrid. After Di Stéfano, he has probably been our most important player and in his case there'll be a before and after. Let's hope that he goes on performing as he is and that he's here for many more years to come".
