Real Madrid's vice-captain scored his 37th goal in the championship against Valencia.
Sergio Ramos is the top-scoring active defender in La Liga. With his header against Valencia, he now has 37, and overtakes Capedevila, who to date has one less. Next is Iraola, with 32, and Barcelona defenders Alves and Adriano, with 25 and 19 respectively.

Real Madrid's vice-captain did not miss his chance in front of goal, and has found the net in each of the 10 seasons he has played at the top level. Since he has been at The Whites, the centre back has scored at least three times in each league season he has played.

His standout goalscoring seasons
The highest number of goals he has scored in a single campaign was achieved with Real Madrid in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons, with five. He scored one less in 2005/06 - his first campaign with Real Madrid -2008/09, 2009/10 and last season. The season in which he scored the fewest goals was the year he made his debut with Sevilla, finding the net only twice.

The last three goals that the Spain international has scored (a double in Munich and the first equaliser versus Valencia), show his danger from set pieces, with 25 of his 37 (67%) strikes in La Liga coming from dead balls.
