Santamaría, Stein and Stinka renew acquaintances in Helsinki
The Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt legends contested the historic 1960 European Cup final.
In the build-up to kick-off of the UEFA Super Cup, an emotional gathering took place between José Emilio Santamaría, Erwin Stein and Dieter Stinka. The Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt legends took to Helsinki's Olympic Stadium to share their memories of the 1960 European Cup final between the two sides. The trident featured in that historic encounter, in which Real Madrid ran out 7-3 winners to caputre the club's fifth continental crown.
Santamaría is one of the greatest defenders to have played for Real Madrid, whom he represented between 1957 and 1966. He lifted four European Cups and the final at Glasgow's Hampden Park against Eintracht Frankfurt is one of the crowning moments in his career. Meanwhile, Stinka was a key cog in the German outfit's midfield and featured in every game in that tournament. Five-goal Stein was Eintracht's top scorer in that European campaign and netted a brace in the showpiece against Real Madrid.
