Courtois: “The important thing was to win at home”
“The week break will perhaps do us all good to rest and improve,” said our goalkeeper.
Thibaut Courtois was once again decisive. Our goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against Sevilla following a superb performance and shared his thoughts with Realmadrid TV after the match: “The important thing was to win at home. But we have to improve our football, we won from a set piece and a penalty. We have to improve, but at times like this it's important to win. We did it against Alavés, in the Copa and today. In 2026 we have to improve. The week's break will perhaps do us all good to rest and improve. Obviously it's not easy, we're struggling and there are a lot of injuries. But in the end, the important thing is the victory."
“I feel very good. I've been working hard every week with Llopis and the goalkeepers. I try to help the team, at 1-0 I had to make several saves. It's my job and I always try to do my best”.
Mbappé's 59 goals
"He deserves a lot of credit. He could have scored a few more today, but it wasn't to be. He's a very hungry lad and he's leading the attack alongside Vini Jr., Rodrygo and the others. Scoring 59 goals is no easy feat. He's a very talented player with a lot of quality. It's difficult to stop him in training, but I try and sometimes we get into a bit of a rivalry. Training with the best in the world always makes you a better goalkeeper”.
Message to Madrid fans
“Happy holidays to all Madrid fans. Have a good end to the year and, above all, stay healthy. For us, we hope to stay healthy and that 2026 brings trophies”.
Captain's armband
“It was the first time I wore the armband at the Bernabéu. It's always nice, it's a great honour to be one of the captains of Real Madrid, especially at the Bernabéu. It's a childhood dream to play here and being one of the captains is a great source of pride. You have to dream big because it can take you a long way”.
