The Champions League returns to the Bernabéu and does so with a huge clash. Real Madrid, who sit fifth in the table of the league phase going into matchday six, face Manchester City for the fifth successive season, with the Premier League side in ninth place (9 pm CET).

With three matchdays remaining in this first phase of the Champions League, it will be a decisive clash for qualification. A fifth victory would not only keep Xabi Alonso's side in the top five of the table, but also represent a significant step towards their goal of finishing in the top eight and reaching the last 16 without having to go through a play-off.

“It's the Champions League, we're playing at the Bernabéu, and we have to play a good game,” said Xabi Alonso in the press conference before the clash. Meanwhile, Tchouameni spoke of the team’s motivation to get the win: “We're looking forward to playing this game at home and we have to be at our best.

Manchester City
Madrid's opponents head to the Bernabéu on the back of a thumping win over Sunderland on Saturday, their third consecutive victory in the Premier League, where they currently sit second in the table. Manchester City are also unbeaten away from home in the Champions League: beating Villarreal (0-2) and drawing with Monaco (2-2). At home, they have won two games (Napoli and Borussia Dortmund) and suffered their only defeat in the competition (Bayer Leverkusen). Haaland is their top scorer this season with 20 goals (15 in the Premier League and 5 in the Champions League).
