It has been 41 years since Real Madrid's first UEFA Cup triumph. On May 22, 1985, our team lifted the title at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium against Hungarian side Videoton. In the first leg, the madridistas took control of the final with a 0-3 victory thanks to goals by Míchel, Santillana, and Valdano. This advantage was enough to secure the trophy despite a 0-1 loss in the second leg.

On the road to that final, Madrid eliminated Wacker Innsbruck, Rijeka, Anderlecht, Tottenham, and Inter Milan. It was a historic competition, featuring three unforgettable comebacks at the Santiago Bernabéu. The first came with a 3-0 victory over Rijeka following a 3-1 first-leg loss. The second, even more spectacular, saw Madrid overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit against Anderlecht with a commanding 6-1 win. The last comeback came in the semifinals, eliminating Inter 3-0 despite a 2-0 loss in Milan. Individually, Santillana was the team's top scorer with 5 goals.
