With Del Bosque at the helm, the team made mathematically sure of the title three games from the end of the season when they thrashed Alavés 5-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu. The madridistas finished off with a fine performance, thanks to a Raúl brace and goals for Guti, Hierro and Helguera.
Real Madrid claimed a total of 80 points in the campaign, sitting ahead of Deportivo de La Coruña on 73. Our team were the league's top scorers with 81 and Raúl enjoyed a particularly impressive run, being named Pichichi with 24 goals to his name.
