On June 21, 1936, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the final played at Mestalla.
It has been 90 years since Real Madrid won its seventh Spanish Cup. The opponent was Barcelona, in a final held on June 21, 1936, at the Mestalla Stadium. Madrid took the lead in the early minutes with goals from Eugenio and Lecue, but Escolà's goal in the 29th minute kept the score uncertain until the end. This match marked the final appearance as a madridista for Ricardo Zamora, who made several decisive saves to secure the title. His last save against Escolà, just a few meters from the goal, was unforgettable.
To reach the match at Mestalla, our team defeated Arenas Club in the round of 16, in a tie that required a replay match. In the remaining two-legged rounds, Madrid overcame Athletic Club (quarterfinals) and Hércules (semifinals). That squad was coached by Francisco Bru.
