We won our 5th Liga 67 years ago
Real Madrid won the league on 14 April 1957 with a 2-1 away win over Zaragoza.
It is the 67th anniversary of Real Madrid's fifth LaLiga title. It was on 14 April 1957 that our team mathematically secured the title after beating Zaragoza at Torrero (1-2) on the second to last matchday of the season. The madridistas had to turn around the goal that Wilson had scored to put the Aragonese side ahead in the 9th minute. Mateos, in the 35th and 70th minutes, scored a brace to take the title.
Real Madrid finished the 1956/57 league with a five-point lead over Sevilla and Barcelona, second and third in the table. On an individual level, Alfredo Di Stéfano (31 goals) was the competition's top scorer. That squad was coached by José Villalonga and would go on to win three titles that season, also winning our second European Cup and the Latin Cup.
