Scariolo: “We've improved very important things”
“It's a figure worthy of a big club like Real Madrid and it makes me very proud to be part of it,” said Tavares about the league record of 34 consecutive home wins.
Sergio Scariolo and Walter Tavares analysed the victory against Baxi Manresa and talked about the record number of consecutive home wins in the league. The coach said: “It's a collective effort by a lot of people, by Pablo Laso and Chus Mateo, by coaches, players and the club. It all adds up. It's an important statistic, but the time will come when the streak will end and we'll have to start over. It's not an obsession.”
“We had turnovers in the first half and didn't improve in the second. We could have opened up a big lead much earlier if we had limited the turnovers. Often they come from anxiety or rushing, and sometimes from an over-eagerness to do things when there's no room to do them individually. But we'll improve.”
Opponent and improvement
"Diego Ocampo has done a great job. They're a team with a strong identity. They've been playing the same style for many years. They're a very athletic team, with high creative speed, aggressive defence and they're dangerous. If you lose focus, they can run up the score. Today, we improved two things that are very important to us: defensive transition, which, honestly, is a part of the game we've been poor at until now; and reducing those bad minutes, which had also hurt us a lot with negative runs."
Tavares: ‘We tried to maintain control until the end‘
“We have to start the game well to get into a rhythm and maintain it. We know that during a game we will have ups and downs, but we have to know how to maintain it until the end, and that's what we did.”
“It's important to protect our home court to stay at the top of the standings. It was a difficult game because Manresa are a team that never stop running and create a lot of advantages. We tried to control the pace and maintain control until the end.”
On the record
“It's a figure for a big club like Real Madrid, and it makes me very proud to be part of it. We have to keep it up and hopefully we can get it as high as possible."
