Real Madrid - Leganés

Solari: “Vinicius takes people on, he's bold and is making huge strides"

NEWS | 09/01/2019

“His goal was a difficult technique, and the way he puts defenders off balance is fantastic”, added the coach.
Solari appeared before the press in the media room at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Whites' coach discussed Real Madrid's win over Leganés in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey last-sixteen tie and was full of praise for Vinicius Jr.: “It was a very good performance. Vinicius is making huge strides. He's always had the talent but to develop it at the Bernabéu surrounded by wonderful players speaks volumes about his confidence, rawness and the enjoyment he exudes with the ball at his feet”.

“He's 18 years of age and you have to look after yourself in football. It's important for him to keep going. We're very happy with his current performance levels, he's keen to take people on. He's bold and that individual ability to beat a man is very important in modern-day football. His goal showed wonderful technique, and also how he puts defenders off balance. We hope he continues to grow both from individual and collective points of view”.

Muscular injuries
“The explanation is a general thing. These are players who are competing at the top level, playing every week for their clubs and national sides. Injuries, even when so many come at once, are all part of top-level competition. There weren't so many games 15 years ago”.

Keylor Navas will continue to be an important player for us.

"Keylor Navas was very good. He’s a great professional and has my respect for his past, his present and his future. He will continue to be an important player".

The team against Betis
"I can’t give you the starting line-up because I don’t know it and it depends on a lot of things. We have to rest and recover. The team has adapted to the 4-3-3, but there is the possibility of playing with other systems".

Isco
"There are 24 players in the squad and a part of my job, not the most pleasant one, is to decide who plays".

Low attendances at the Bernabéu?
"Real Madrid have hundreds of millions of fans around the world. Not everyone can come to the Bernabéu. Real Madrid is the global brand of football and there are always people watching and we always feel that they are with us".
