Bale: "It was important to win so as to remain in a strong position in the group"

"We put in a good performance and ran out convincing winners", delcared Sergio Ramos.
In the wake of the team's fine victory at Signal Iduna Park, several members of the Whites' squad spoke to the press to offer their thoughts on the game. Gareth Bale highlighted the significance of the three points: "The most important thing was to get the win so as to remain in a strong position in the group and take the three points to keep us top, restore our confidence in ourselves and qualify for the next round of the Champions League".

"It's always important to win all of your games. We're not top of the pile in LaLiga and it's good to having a winning mentality and we need to show more confidence from now onwards".

Ramos: "We stood up and were counted right from the off"
"We knew that this was a good opportunity to finally get a win at this stadium, which is very tough because they're difficult opposition and their fans are unique. The team stood up and was counted right from the very first whistle and showed the character you need to win these kinds of games".

"We were keen to get back and perform to our best, we showed character and we come away from here in pretty good spirits after a good performance in which we ran out convincing winners".

"When Cristiano and Bale are on song in front of goal it makes a real difference. We're pleased that they're back on the goal trail and let's hope that we continue to benefit from that. Tonight, putting the goals to one side, you have to recognise the collective effort from the team, particularly in defence, because they're a very quick side that are dangerous on the counter-attack".

The penalty shout
"The incident with the hand in the area happened so quickly. It hit my hand after being deflected back by Keylor and was totally accidental, so I don’t think it was a penalty. In Europe the referees let the game flow a little more and I like that”.

Casemiro: "We needed this win"
"It was a tough game. Dortmund play some good football and put you under a lot of pressure here at their stadium, but we produced a very disciplined, confident display and worked as a team. We had the chances to score and perhaps on another day they don't go in, but tonight everything went our way. We're all really happy and we needed this win".

Navas: "The result fills us with confidence because it was a difficult match".

"Cristiano is a player who lives off goals and gets angry if he doesn’t score. But he’s proved himself to be the best in the world. As for Bale, the pass from Carvajal was very good and he’s finished it well and also had a great match. You have to congratulate him. He only had cramp, he’s fine. Cristiano and Bale are two special players and it is a privilege to have them".

Memories of Dortmund
"For me the game I played here in 2014 is special because I proved that I could play for Real Madrid. That's why this stadium has a special place in my heart".

Navas: "We’re feeling good"
"We’re happy because it was a difficult match. The result fills us with confidence. The team put in a really good performance. We tried to press, we moved the ball well from one side to the other and everything went pretty well. Although the results have not gone as we expected them to, we’re playing well and are creating chances. We felt good today".

Praise for Cristiano and Bale
"We were in need of this win at what's a difficult ground and that's when the top players step up to the plate. Cristiano always delivers. We're all aware of what he's capable of, he'll always get your goals and tonight his goals have seen us to victory. Bale is a great player and he works very hard. He scored an incredible goal, the sort that only players of his calibre are capable of and he's in good form. He came off at the end to avoid picking up an injury".

Nacho: "It was a 10/10 performance"
"We put in a really good performance, a 10/10. We did well both defensively and up top. Perhaps Cristiano and Bale were in need of a night like tonight, in a game like this and at this ground. It's a special night for everyone, but perhaps all the more so for them. The president, just like the rest of us, is pleased, because it was a very tough game. We came here on the back of a win over Alavés and we now have to continue on in the same vein".
