Doncic: “I'll never regret coming to Real Madrid”

NEWS | 01/06/2017

The Whites' point guard was the star of the latest episode of 'Campo de estrellas' on Realmadrid TV.
Luka Doncic was the star of the latest edition of Realmadrid TV's Campo de estrellas program. The Whites' point guard reflected on his beginnings and how he learned his trade in the madridista youth set-up before making into the first team: “This year has been the best season of my career so far. You've always got to keep your feet on the ground, be humble and keep your head in the right place. I dream of winning the Final Four one day”.

“I always wanted to play basketball. Ever since I was a 7-year-old kid, which is when I started playing at school. I wasn't so good at other sports. Basketball came naturally to me and it's all I've thought about since I was a kid. People bought me balls or plastic baskets and I always used to go to the court opposite my house to play, whatever the weather”.

Contact with Real Madrid
“What of my best times with Olimpia de Ljubljana was at a tournament in Italy. We played in the final and I got 54 points. It was the most impressive tournament I'd been at. And that was what saw Real Madrid invite me to the Minicopa in 2012 and then afterwards they got in touch with me to say they wanted me to come to Madrid. I wasn't sure because I was young and it was a difficult decision. But it was a dream and I wanted to give it a go: I'm never going to regret it”.

“My debut was one of the happiest days of my life”.

“My best memories in the academy was with the under-17s Júnior side. We had a good team, with Paco Redondo as coach. It was an unforgettable season. First we won the Spanish Championship, and then the Euroleague against Crvena zvezda in the final in what was an incredible game”.

First team
“I was very nervous on my first team debut. I couldn't feel anything when I got on the court, I didn't know what to do. I panicked. I thought, if the ball came to me I was going to shoot. I scored and it was an incredible feeling, one of the happiest days of my life. It was amazing to be training with these players every day. We've got Llull and Sergio Rodriguez, two of the best point guards in Europe, and they all treated me very well”.
