He is a late developer, in that his first steps in sport were as a footballer in his native Pogdorica (Montenegro). Fortunately for basketball, it obtained an enormous talent, a power forward with the movements of a small forward, who at his age has become a point of reference in continental basketball. He is doubly dangerous. He is capable of moving under the hoop with the same ease as he does beyond the 6.75 line.
Real Madrid was the first team to discover this Montenegrin diamond in the rough. He landed in the Spanish capital during the summer of 2005, and joined the club's academy. With the special care of the academy's coaches, Mirotic began growing exponentially, until he made the jump to the first team for the 2010-2011 season. At that moment the 2.08 tall youngster, raised and molded within the Whites’ academy, became an unstoppable player.
Three seasons later, the Spanish/Montenegrin is an essential pillar of Pablo Laso's team and style of play. With a spectacular scoring capacity, and individual skills that very few on the old continent possess, Mirotic stands out for his versatility and unusual quick movements for a player of his height.
