This socio-sporting school is in place to reinforce the socio-educational project run by the NGO, ANAKK, whose work involves back to school programmes and the professional insertion of boys, girls and young people who have low economic resources and reside in the city of Santa Cruz. The participants have abandoned their studies or lack any professional training. The projects involve using sport as a tool to offer education on values, conflict prevention and the construction of peaceful and harmonious relationships. The school represents a healthy leisure alternative and a way of spending participants' free time so as to promote the social integration of the most disadvantage boys, girls and young people and those with the fewest resources.
The project is financed by the Fundación Mapfre (Mapfre Foundation) and is supported by Mapfre Insular.
Almost half of the participants belong to the indigenous population. Furthermore, the programme has a section devoted to food reinforcement, leadership and teamwork workshops, a diagnostic monitoring service for every pupil, a school for the parents and training for the sports coaches, led by a specialist from the Real Madrid Foundation.
2014 saw the opening of new centres within this project in two separate towns: Hagony (55 participants, many of whom are girls) and Digos (35 participants, including children with disabilities: who are deaf, blind and have a mild intellectual impairment). The Padada project began operating in January 2015.
