Canario checked in at Real Madrid in the 1959/60 season and capped off his first year at the club by lining up in one of the greatest games in the history of the sport. The Brazilian claimed a starting spot in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt that saw Real Madrid run out 7-3 winners to clinch the club’s fifth European Cup crown. Canario lined up in attack alongside Di Stéfano, Puskas, Gento and Del Sol.
A Brazil International, his trophy haul also features an Intercontinental Cup after he played in the first leg of the final against Peñarol. He later went on to win a pair of league titles and a Spanish Cup crown. Following his spell at Madrid, he remained in the top flight with Sevilla and Zaragoza, where he was part of the Los Magníficos forward line.
